Founded in 1978, the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco is an official branch of the Italian government dedicated to promoting Italian culture in the United States by organizing cultural events and services.
Under the leadership of the superior Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the advisory committee and its staff, the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco fulfils its commitment by cultivating cultural exchanges between Italy and the United States in a wide range of areas, from arts to humanities and science.
The most important role of the Institute is to work continuously to ensure that the varied population who live and work in the Bay Area and the consular district can understand and benefit from the various cultural expressions from Italy or of Italian influence. The main activities of the Institute include: developing academic exchanges, organizing and supporting exhibitions and festivals, incentives towards the publication of Italian books, promoting the study of the Italian language, and collaborating with local institutions to organize events that promote Italian arts and culture.
