Amrit Project (Syria)
CNR National Research Council, Piazzale Aldo Moro 7, 00185 Roma (RM), Italy
The archaeological site of Amrit (Tartus, Syria) is a Phoenician settlement that flourished between the 2nd and 1st millennium BC. After its abandonment (2nd century BC), the remains of the Phoenician sanctuary (ma’abed) were well preserved. The project aims at the realisation of monitoring, documentation, preservation and valorisation activities of the site, in a co-operative perspective, for the benefit of the local communities, with a view to the recovery and protection of the cultural heritage in the post-conflict phase.
