Sapienza University of Rome, Piazzale Aldo Moro 5, 00185 Roma (RM), Italy
The exploration of contexts referable to the Archaic peopling of the Caribbean archipelago has so far been limited to a small number of settlement sites, particularly in the Dominican Republic. The discovery of the coastal settlement of El Pozito (Las Galeras), offers the opportunity to scientifically investigate the earliest phases of the island’s peopling in view of the integrity of the archaeological deposits, the volume of finds and organic remains, and the research methodology applied by the team.
