Sapienza University of Rome – NCAM joint archaeological mission to Hujair and Magal, 4th Cataract, Sudan
Sapienza University of Rome, Piazzale Aldo Moro 5, 00185 Roma (RM), Italy
The mission is primarily concerned with the excavation and study of the temple of Hugair Gubli, located in the region of the 4th Cataract of the Nile about 40 km from Jebel Barkal. It is a monumental building attributable, in its late Nile/Meroitic phase, to the reign of Gatisen (late 4th century BC), but probably with an older core. The research project also aims to explore the Hugair/Magal region, also part of the concession, with a focus on the desert hinterland.
