Searching for the first fishing communities on the island of Socotra (Yemen) and their adaptation to the coastal environment
Sapienza University of Rome, Piazzale Aldo Moro 5, 00185 Rome (RM), Italy.
The mission aims to initiate prospecting research through systematic reconnaissance activities and stratigraphic verifications, in order to highlight the presence of coastal settlements, often characterised by seasonal villages in the form of shell-midden. This configuration is typical of areas exposed to the open sea, widespread in the Arabian Sea and already extensively documented in Oman, Yemen and elsewhere, referable to fishing communities in the 5th and 4th millennium BC.
