Liceo “Pier Martire Vermigli” – Zurich

The Liceo Vermigli was founded in 1978 by a group of parents who managed the school and decided to name it after Pier Martire Vermigli, a great Florentine theologian and Renaissance humanist, Professor at the Universities of Strasbourg and Zurich. The Liceo obtained official state recognition in 2004. Since its opening, the number of pupils has progressively grown, the number of classes has increased from two to ten and 750 diplomas have been awarded since 1983. The education is inspired by the fundamental principles enshrined in the Constitution and the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, and is in line with the general principles of the Italian and Swiss education systems. The Liceo offers students education in the subject areas of the different specialisations, founded on the fundamental values of man as a free citizen. It also provides the cultural, language and technical tools that enable them to understand the present through knowledge of the past and the future prospects of modern society. Together with the technical-scientific subjects and the main modern languages, the school also values education on European and world history, Western philosophy, Latin, history of art and literature of the languages on the curriculum.
