‘Misis (ancient Mopsuestia): multidisciplinary investigation of a border city between Anatolia and Syria’.
University of Pisa, Lungarno Pacinotti 43, 56126 Pisa (PI), Italy.
Preceded by ten years of Surveys on the Cilicia Pedias, the excavation of Misis (ancient Mopsuestia) began in 2012 under the guidance of Prof. Giovanni Salmeri. Located along the Ceyhan river, the city controlled the main communication routes in the area and seems to have been the site of very early settlements. Through a multidisciplinary investigation, the Project aims to reconstruct the long history of Misis, as well as the conservation of its monuments and the environment.
