‘Archaeological Mission in Kinik Höyük’.
University of Firenze, Piazza S. Marco 4, 50121, Firenze (FI), Italy.
The site of Kinik Höyük (Nigde, TR) was identified thanks to the 2006-09 archaeological survey by the University of Pavia, led by Prof. Lorenzo d’Alfonso. The geo-physical surveys (2010) revealed the presence of monumental remains. Starting in 2011, the excavations have exposed the ruins of a sanctuary city from the Achaemenid and Hellenistic periods. The remains of an important Bronze and Iron Age settlement are emerging underneath this city, with a continuity of settlement that is unique in central Anatolia.
