Italian project in Dumat al-Jandal (Saudi Arabia)

‘Missione archeologica italiana in Arabia Saudita, Dumat al-Jandal (antica Adummatu)’.

‘L’Orientale’ University of Naples, Piazza San Domenico Maggiore 12, 80134 Naples (NA), Italy.

The project began in 2009, led by Prof. Romolo Loreto, and, at the end of the ten-year period 2009-2018, was granted a new five-year authorization (2019-2023) to excavate and study materials in the historical haven of Dumat al-Jandal, the ancient Assyrian Adummatu (Nabatean Dumah and Roman Dumatha), and for prospections in the Jawf region to study the prehistoric Neolithic phases (sites of Asfan and J. Najma) and the Bronze Age (funerary sites of Tamriyat). In addition to archaeological activities, the project foresees training for Saudi archaeologists.
