Italian Archaeological Project in Turkmenistan (Nisa partica)’.
Centro Ricerche Archeologiche e Scavi di Torino per il Medio Oriente e l’Asia (CRAST), P.zza Statuto 10, 10122 Torino (TO), Italy.
From 1990 to the present day, the CRAST project, led by Prof. Carlo Lippolis, has investigated the citadel’s central monumental area, the southern production and storage area, and, since 2018, the northern area of the Nisa Vecchia site. Recently, the project expanded its investigation to include the neighbouring settlement of Nisa Nuova (the actual city). Among the first royal foundations of the Arsacid dynasty, Nisa (UNESCO site since 2007) is a key site for understanding and studying Parthian culture.
