‘Archaeological mission in the southern Caucasus’.
ISMEO, Corso Vittorio Emanuele II 244, 00186 Rome (RM), Italy.
The Archaeological Project, operational since 2013 in the cultural area of the Southern Caucasus (Armenia and Georgia) and led by Prof. Roberto Dan, foresees the investigation of three areas by excavations and reconnaissance. The many purposes include investigating the sites of the Bronze and Iron Age and analysing the dynamics that led first to the birth of the state of Urartu and then to the annexation of those territories by the Achaemenid Empire. In 2019, the project was awarded the Europa Nostra/European Heritage Award in the Research category.
