Italian Mission in Armenia (University of Florence)

‘The Making of the Silk Road in Armenia: A Light Archaeology of Euro-Asian Connectivity in the Middle Ages’.

The project, operational since 2014 and led by Prof. Michele Nucciotti, investigates the medieval settlement along the Armenian stretch of the Silk Road, as an element of long-lasting cultural and economic connectivity between Europe and Asia. The subject of the study is the rural space, rarely analysed for the Silk Road. Thanks to the collaboration between the University of Florence and the Yerevan State University, the project makes use of both methods of territorial Light Archaeology, of Italian and Florentine origin, and advanced skills in Armenology.
