The ‘Den Poezie‘ festival has been held since 1999 in November to celebrate the birth of the Czech Romantic poet Karel Hynek Mácha and each year presents a series of prominent Czech and foreign poets throughout the Czech Republic.
The 2021 edition will pay tribute to Dante Alighieri, this year being the seven hundredth anniversary of his death. The festival motto will be ‘The Divine Comedy’.
‘Den Poezie’ will open on 8 November in the spaces of theItalian Cultural Institute of Prague with a symbolic walk from the Dark Forest to Paradise, listening to recitals of some passages from Dante’s final masterpiece, moving around the cloister and finally reaching the Baroque chapel.
The official opening reading of the festival will be in Czech, with the participation of poets Vít Janota, Sylva Fischerová and Tomáš Míka.
On Sunday 14 November, three video performances by the Artemis Danza company entitled ‘Ombre’ (Shadows) will be screened on the YouTube channel and Facebook page of the festival, directed by Alessandro Ceci, Fabio Fiandrini and Ieric Fochi and inspired by some of the most famous characters in the Divine Comedy. Through the figures of Charon, Minos, Francesca da Rimini, Ulysses and others, the choreographer Monica Casadei explores the human soul, composing a very striking carnal and poetic picture. With music by Luca Vianini and Giuseppe Verdi.
