From 15 to 20 November 2021, there will be the 8th edition of ‘Libriamoci. Giornate di lettura nelle scuole‘ (Let’s get reading: reading days in schools), the initiative promoted each year by the Centre for Books and Reading of the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Education.

The initiative, designed for schools of all types and levels, from nursery to high school, in Italy and abroad, invites participants to devise and organise reading aloud initiatives, both in the classroom and online, with the purpose of instilling the pleasure of reading among pupils and students.

This year’s theme, ‘Leggere è un gioco‘ (Reading is a Game), aims to encourage reflection on the dual nature of reading as a moment of leisure and a tool for growth, through the three main themes: ‘Il gioco del mondo’ (The game of the world), ‘Il gioco dei sé’ (The game of selves) and ‘Giochi diVersi’ (Different games; play on words with diversi, different, and di versi, of verses). Once again, this year the event has been twinned with #ioleggoperché (#Ireadbecause), a national campaign organised by the Italian Publishers Association from 20 to 28 November promoting the creation and strengthening of school libraries by collecting book donations from citizens and publishers.

Teachers wishing to join the initiative can register their reading activities on the Cepell website. In addition, teachers interested in inviting a volunteer reader to the classroom, either in person or remotely, can apply to the organising secretariat via the special online form.
